Samsung’s AMOLED Display at CES 2011


AMOLED(Active Matrix OLED) is a display technology to be used in mobile and television devices, to redude the size of display. OLED describes a thin film display technology in which compounds form the electroluminescent material, and active matrix refers to the technology behind the addressing of pixels. As of 2011, AMOLED technology is used in mobile phone and media players and continues to make progress toward low-power, low-cost and large-size applications.

In CES 2011, Samsung Mobile Display has demonstrated next generation AMOLED display.

The size of new Samsung Amoled display is only 2mm thick. The 4.5 inch flexible AMOLED runs at a WVGA 800 x 480 resolution and can be rolled down to a one centimeter radius.

In AMOLED technoloy plastic substrates is used to make the display thinner and lighter. The new plastic substrates are not prone to breakage during manufacturing. AMOLED maintains up to a 30% transparency.
