Rooting HTC Incredible S With Android Ice Cream Sandwich

HTC Incredible S is a very good smart phone of HTC. HTC Incredible S by default comes with Android v2.2(Froyo) which is getting outdated. Today I got a chance to root HTC Incredible S with Android Ice Cream flavour.

Remember : Rooting will thereby end up your warranty. There are always chances of bricking your phone while rooting so always prefer to back up all your data before rooting.

Note: You phone’s battery must be at least 60% charged before following this rooting tutorial. This version of ICS is not a stable version which means that you might face some bugs. The things which are not expected to work properly are as follows

  • Proper UMS
  • Proper Hardware acceleration
  • WiFi Tethering
  • USB Tethering
  • Camera
  • Some Other Bugs

Step 1 Start up by downloading the Android v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Package on your computer. Don’t rename the files in the package because once you do so, they won’t be recognized. Download the package from here.

Step 2 Connect your phone with the computer using the USB cable which everyone gets during the purchase.

Step 3 Now just copy the downloaded zip file to your phone and then safely remove the phone from computer.

Step 4 Now you need to enable USB debugging. You can do so by following this path Settings then Applications then Development and finally checking USB debugging.

Step 5 Now switch off your phone and restart it in recovery mode. To start it in recovery mode, hold and press volume down key and power button key. If you will follow the steps as mentioned, you will make it to the boot loader mode.

Step 6 Now tap the recovery option from the boot loaded mode.

Step 7 Now tap Clear Storage in order to remove all the cache data.Step 8 – Now select the install zip from SD Card option and then tap the Choose zip from SD Card option. Now select the Ice Cream Sandwich Package from the location where you saved it.

Step 9 It will take 15-20 minutes for HTC Incredible S to get rooted, wait till then and don’t stop the procedure in-between. After the procedure is complete tap “++++ Go Back ++++” and reboot system now.

Step 10 Once your phone gets rebooted, it will load up in ICS custom ROM. And if it doesn’t then you have to repeat the tutorial once again.

That’s it. Enjoy your new OS

Installing OS on Dead Blackberry

I am using Blackberry bold 9000 for last 1 year, recently I was having some problem with it. In one fine morning my phone was in hung mode. So I did a routine battery pull. While blackberry was rebooting, the progress bar on the loading screen went to 1/3 and then the phone rebooted again. The process goes on and on and at the end the phone got dead. If i hook the phone to the wall charger I am getting the same thing. I took out my SIM card and memory card but no use. I have tried every possible thing to troubleshoot this problem.

In short my BlackBerry was stuck in a permanent reboot cycle and it was completely unusable.

At the end I have decided to reload Blackberry OS to fix this problem.

Pre-requesites:
1. Blackberry Device OS 5.0. You can download the same from here or else do google search for download blackberry os 5 for blackberry bold 9000

2. Data cable

A. Remove battery from the blackberry device.

B. Install Blackberry Device OS which you have downloaded earlier.
By default it will get installed in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion

C. Now go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and rename Vendor.xml to Vendor.xml.bak else you will get the following screen while reloading your Blackberry OS.

Note : We have renamed vendor.xml because we are getting the blackberry desktop software does not have blackberry device software for the device that you have connected to the computer error

D. Now double click on Loader.exe. You will get Loader.exe in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader folder

E. Click on Next button.

F. In next window you have to select Connection as USB-PIN: UNKNOWN from drop down list.

G. If you have set any password earlier you have enter the same in next screen

H. In the Device Application Selection screen, you have to select language and application you want to install on your blackberry Device.

I. In next Windows it will show you the options summary you have selected.

J. Now it will start updating your device.

On device you will see following screen

K. Now here is the trick. While doing above process I have removed battery from my device. We have to put the battery back in the device when you see Wait for device initialization in Application loading wizard.

L. Once the device initialized successfully it will start loading modules in your Blackberry.

M. After a successful installation you will get the completion message. That’s it. Remaining configuration you have to do on your blackberry handset.

Create hotspot in Ubuntu 11.10

Recently I need to access my Internet from my blackberry device. I already using Connectify to run my windows machine as a wifi-hotspot, but due to some reason on my laptop windows was not working. So I thought I should find some alternative to create a wifi hotspot in Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 11.10 gives user easy way to turn their computer into hotspot. You can simply do it without installing any application.

To get started got to the Application > System Tools > System Settings > Network Setting > Wireless. You will see the following screen in your Computer.

Click on Use as Hotspot. You hotspot will be immediately create with the SSID name “UBUNTU”. If you want to change it go to configure

1st field is for assigning a name for a connection. 2nd field is for enabling security in hotspot connection. 3rd field is for assigning SSID as a unique name. 4th field is for cloning your MAC address.

To Configure wireless security, select different security mode of your desire and put your desired password.

That’s it. Your wifi hotspot is ready in Ubuntu.
If you are using any other software or method please let us know the same.
