As a Linux Administrator I used to do more task through command line rather than GUI. Today in need of erasing a re-writable disk via command line I found out wodim. wodim is used to record data or audio Compact Discs or to write DVD media on a DVD-Recorder.

To use wodim, you need to install it first on Ubuntu. Run

apt-get install wodim

How to Use
To erase a disk, run

wodim dev=/dev/cdrw blank=fast

You can find more info via “man wodim”
