Many times we need to copy songs from Apple iPOD to our PC or we need to backup all the songs & videos from iPOD. For the same we can use ipodcopy. ipodcopy is a tool written in Java that help you to extract songs and videos from your iPod to your PC. It is OS independent, means you can run it on windows as well as on linux. You need to install jre 1.6 to run ipodcopy on your pc. For installing java on linux click here.
Downloading & installing ipodcopy:
You can get the latest version from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ipodcopy/files/
cd ~ mkdir ipodcopy wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/ipodcopy/IpodCopy/0.6.1/ipodcopy-0.6.1-bin.zip unzip ipodcopy-*.zip -d ~/ipodcopy/
Enter mount point of ipod. To find out mount point of ipod run mount cmd in terminal
gvfs-fuse-daemon on /home/vidyadhar/.gvfs type fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon (rw,nosuid,nodev,user=vidyadhar) /dev/sdb1 on /media/techienote_ipod type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=udisks,uid=500,gid=500,shortname=mixed,dmask=0077,utf8=1,flush)
Once you enter mount point it will show you all the songs & movie from your ipod. Select the songs/videos you want to copy (If you want to backup you ipod select all the songs/videos), click on file menu & select save as, choose destination path to save your songs/videos.
